Mediasoft vs Smart Software vs MondayPOS: Which Retail POS Fits Your Shop?

If you have been shopping for retail POS software in Bangladesh for more than a week, three names have probably come up: Mediasoft, the long-established vendor whose logos you see in supershops and pharmacies; Smart Software, the budget web-and-mobile option that small shops find on Google; and MondayPOS, which is us. We are one of the three products in this comparison, so we have written it the way we would want a competitor to write about us: using only what each vendor publishes on its own website, marking anything unstated as "not stated", and giving a verdict per shop type rather than a single winner.

The short version: these three products are not really aimed at the same shop. Mediasoft is built for large, established chains that want a proven local vendor and are comfortable buying separate modules on a quote. Smart Software is built for a single small shop that needs a simple, cheap, web-based till today. MondayPOS sits between and across those: an offline-first retail ERP with published per-outlet pricing, aimed at shops that already run, or plan to run, more than one counter and want billing, stock, purchasing and the VAT ledger in one system. The rest of this article shows the evidence so you can decide which of those descriptions sounds like your shop.

Who the three vendors are

Mediasoft Data Systems

Mediasoft was established in 1998 and describes itself as having more than 25 years of experience, over 1,000 installations, 500+ completed projects and 750+ customers, with a 1 per cent customer attrition rate. Its software is available for both on-premise and cloud deployment. Rather than one product, it sells industry variants: superstore and grocery, pharmacy and healthcare, restaurant, apparel and fashion, electronics, jewellery, salon and spa, bakery, distribution and wholesale, and hospital management. VAT is handled by a separate VAT Accounting Software product. The site advertises 24/7 support and displays more than 50 client logos, including international apparel brands sold through local franchisees. No pricing is published; every sale is a quote.

Smart Software Ltd

Smart Software sells Smart POS, described on its site as "a web-based & Mobile App solution that supports multi-shop system". The Android app is called Smart Dokani Premium. Listed features cover product entry, sales, purchases, inventory with size, season and colour tracking, low-stock alerts, barcode generation and scanning, customer and employee management, discounts, returns, a general ledger with payables, receivables and bank reconciliation, cash-flow and profit-and-loss reports, tax reports, and SMS and email to customers. It connects to a POS printer, barcode scanner and cash drawer. The subscription bundles software, cloud server and a support team. Payment is "100% Advance Payment Monthly or Yearly" by cheque, bKash, Rocket or Nagad, with tax and VAT charged on top. The actual price is not published.

MondayPOS (Mondaysys Ltd)

MondayPOS is built by Mondaysys Ltd in Uttara, Dhaka, on the open-source ERPNext/Frappe stack. It is an offline-first retail ERP: the counter keeps billing during load-shedding or a broadband cut and syncs when the connection returns. Modules cover POS and checkout, inventory with real-time stock, auto-reorder and expiry, batch and FEFO control, purchasing, accounting with Mushak 6.3 and VAT, CRM and loyalty with SMS and WhatsApp campaigns, HR and payroll, multi-branch, pricing and promotions, reports including outlet P&L, and access and audit logs. bKash, Nagad, cards and cash are tender types reconciled at day-end. Pricing is published in taka per outlet per month, billed yearly: Lite ৳1,500, Business ৳3,500, Growth ৳6,500, Enterprise on request. There is a 12-month contract and a 14-day refund window. Data migration is included and a typical single-outlet setup takes two to four weeks.

Everything in this table comes from each vendor's public website as checked in August 2026. "Not stated" means the site does not say; it does not mean the product cannot do it. Ask at the demo.

Five things that separate them

1. Deployment and what happens when the internet drops

Mediasoft gives you the choice of on-premise or cloud. An on-premise install by its nature keeps working without internet, but whether the cloud edition bills offline is not stated. Smart Software is a web-based system with a mobile app, and its site does not describe an offline mode, so assume you need a connection until the vendor shows otherwise. MondayPOS is designed offline-first: the terminal holds its own copy of products, prices and bills, and the head office sees everything once the link comes back. For a shop in Mirpur or Chattogram that loses power or broadband several times a week, this is the first thing to test. 2. How VAT and Mushak 6.3 are handled

All three say they handle VAT, but in three different ways. Mediasoft sells VAT accounting as a separate product alongside the POS, which is sensible for a large business that already has an accounts department, but means two systems to reconcile. Smart Software produces tax reports; the page does not name Mushak 6.3 or the VAT registers, so ask to see them. MondayPOS generates the Mushak 6.3 invoice from the same sale that updates stock and the ledger, with no export step. 3. One outlet or several

Mediasoft and MondayPOS are both built around multi-outlet operation: branches, warehouses, stock transfers and consolidated reporting. Smart Software states multi-shop support, but the public page does not describe transfers, approvals or per-outlet profit and loss, so treat those as demo questions. If you plan a second branch within two years, the cost of moving later is usually higher than the difference in monthly price now. 4. bKash and Nagad at the counter

There is a difference between a vendor accepting bKash for its own invoice and the till accepting bKash from your customer as a tender type. Smart Software clearly does the first; neither Smart Software nor Mediasoft state the second on the pages we checked. MondayPOS treats bKash, Nagad, cards and cash as tender types that appear on the bill and reconcile at day-end, so the cashier is not keeping a side notebook of MFS receipts.

5. Price and how you pay

Mediasoft: quote only, which for a 20-outlet chain is normal and reasonable, but a single shop cannot budget from the website. Smart Software: quote only, 100 per cent advance, monthly or yearly, plus tax and VAT. MondayPOS: published per outlet per month and billed yearly, so a single Business-plan shop is ৳42,000 a year (৳3,500 x 12) before hardware, and a second outlet adds ৳2,450 a month. Verdict by shop type

Single small shop, tight monthly budget, no VAT registration yet. Smart Software is the natural first look: web-based, simple, monthly payment, local support. Ask for the actual monthly figure and whether the app bills without internet. If you expect to register for VAT or open a second counter, price MondayPOS Lite at ৳1,500 a month alongside it.

Pharmacy, single or multi-branch. Batch numbers, expiry dates and FEFO picking are not optional. Mediasoft's dedicated pharmacy variant and MondayPOS both address these directly; Smart Software's page describes size, season and colour tracking, which suggests a fashion focus, so ask specifically about expiry. Supershop or grocery with two to ten outlets. This is where Mediasoft and MondayPOS compete head-on. Mediasoft brings a 25-year track record and a large reference list; MondayPOS brings offline billing, Mushak 6.3 and accounting in one system at a published price. Fashion and apparel. All three have something to offer. Mediasoft has an apparel variant and brand-store references; Smart Software's size, season and colour tracking is a real fit for clothing; MondayPOS handles variants, promotions and multi-outlet stock. Large chain with 20+ outlets and an IT team. Mediasoft's on-premise option and long history make it a safe shortlist. MondayPOS Enterprise is a custom plan; ask us about it rather than assuming the published tiers are the ceiling.

Demo checklist for all three

Take this list to every demo and insist on seeing the screen, not a slide.

1. 1Disconnect the internet. Complete, print and then re-find a bill. What did the head office see, and when?
2. 2Produce a Mushak 6.3 invoice for that bill and the month's VAT registers. Is that in the POS or a second product?
3. 3Take a bKash payment and a Nagad payment, then close the day. Does the day-end report split them out without manual entry?
4. 4Transfer stock from outlet A to outlet B and show where approval, in-transit and receipt appear.
5. 5Block an expired batch at the counter (pharmacy and grocery).
6. 6Quote the total first-year cost in writing for your outlet count: licence, cloud or server, hardware, migration, training and maintenance.
7. 7State the contract term, refund policy and what happens to your data if you leave.
8. 8Ask who answers the phone on a Friday evening and how quickly.

The bottom line

Mediasoft is the established choice for large chains that want a 25-year vendor and are happy to buy POS and VAT as separate modules on a quote. Smart Software is the low-friction choice for a single shop that wants a web-based till with monthly payment. MondayPOS is the choice for a shop that wants offline billing, Mushak 6.3, stock, purchasing and accounting in one system, with a price it can read on the website and a path from one counter to many. None of those is the wrong answer; the wrong answer is buying one of them for a shop it was not designed for.
